Give UK owners more insight on how their business was operating, resolve severe EDP problems following difficult ERP installation, restate past monthly profits and generally improve the business, which employed about 80 people.
The Company had been without a Managing Director for some months and the previous Managing Director had allegedly neglected the business during his 18 month tenure. My first task was to re-motivate employees at all levels.
By going into great detail I was able to resolve the EDP problems or at least find a way to operate in spite of the system imposed constraints. I corrected the accounts and restated monthly results for the previous year, showing a trend very different from that previously reported.
I took over management of the accounts dept and replaced the Financial Director. I carried out a market study and produced a detailed strategic plan, which was approved by all departments.
I cleaned up, installed discipline and improved throughput in the factory and negotiated with works inspectorate to avoid temporary enforced closure of the site.
I streamlined the different R & D and laboratory functions, modified responsibilities therein and placed the now united technical services under a new manager (an internal promotion) dramatically improving service to customers in the process. I also gave more prominence to the Quality function by transferring it to a different manager who reported directly to me.
Finally I recruited a new permanent Managing Director. My actions transformed the organisation and efficiency of the Company and set it on the road to recovery.
