Interim assignment example

December 2004 – May 2005
Integration manager
Pharmaceuticals, Madrid

The Brief :

Integrate a division of a Spanish company (12 people) into the new UK owner’s procedures, ensure proper financial controls, guarantee no stock outs, prepare and move to own premises, be contact point between Spanish staff and UK parent, prepare very detailed budgets, control cash and ensure accurate monthly reporting.

On the Regulatory side I had to investigate the many and varied requirements of Spanish regional health authorities (17 autonomous regions) and guarantee that the Company had all legalised papers and procedures in place in order to participate in Public Tenders as soon as the transfer of the activity to the new entity was approved by the authorities..

Achievements :

I resolved all problems that arose in a highly complex and bureaucratic market and ensured that the transfer of the business was carried out in an efficient and professional manner and that all legalised documents were in place as and when required.

My presence reassured both the Spanish and English staff and provided an essential bridge between the two cultures. I also maintained excellent relationships with the division’s sellers, a Spanish family owned company, within whose premises the division continued to operate in the first months.

I ensured that new offices were decorated, cabled and computer installed in accordance with head office standards. In spite of having no in-house accounting system, I maintained strict financial control over the business and assisted in the preparation of an in-house SAP system.

I also monitored the correct application of the numerous complex contracts signed between the UK acquirers and the Spanish sellers of the business.
